After carrying out a scheduled defect survey using our Rope Access Surveyors, we came across a potentially high-risk defect that had substantially increased in size across a mosaic and concrete panel on a LPS type high rise residential tower block for Birmingham City Council.
The defect was reported immediately to the Client who viewed the report we had uploaded to an online cloud-based system we use for reporting.

We were given the go ahead to return as soon as possible to remove the apparent dangerous concrete.
The defect was in a precarious position, 11 floors up and situated directly over one of the entrances the residents use.
When we returned, we closed off this entrance and deployed a safety grounds man as a precautionary measure.
Two of our IRATA trained rope access technicians positioned themselves directly over the hazardous concrete, using a heavy-duty battery drill, chiselled the large concrete pieces away… the concrete pieces weighing in at around 20kg didn’t take much persuasion to come away!
This is the reason why regular condition surveys should be undertaken; we have been carrying out condition safety surveys and defect surveys using rope access methods for 24 years.
We also regularly undertake Make Safe works to Cladding, Glazing, spalling render and other items that can be deemed as dangerous if they fell from height.
